Technical Training

Technical Training on Monday nights offers detail-oriented training for players to improve their technical abilities on the ball. This program will focus on individual skill development and small group play. The coaches will spend time perfecting the basic fundamental techniques for soccer and how they apply to the modern game. The environment will be fun and high paced, demanding of excellence.

*This training is included with Premier membership. Premier players do not need to register.

Training options:
Three 6-week sessions are offered throught a year-round seasonal year, usually in August, November, and February.

Friday Night Finishing

Friday Night Finishing is a comprehensive training session that will focus on all aspects of the game related to the final third of the field. Friday Night Finishing will help players develop their ability to score and create chances in the final third, as well as develop creativity and ideas in and around the goal. The mission is to give players the tools required to be dangerous in the final third of the field, while providing a foundation for creating and developing attack-minded players.

Goalkeeper Training

The old adage, "goalkeepers are born and then made," carries a fair amount of truth. In general, soccer is a demanding sport and the position of goalkeeper is a specialty position that is greatly aided by solid training and good competition. As the youth goalkeeper rises in age and competitive experience, the opportunity to develop both soccer skill and awareness, plus goalkeeping ability, is very much a part of what makes the GK position challenging and unique.

Within the club structure, FWFC goalkeepers get training in each of the 3 cycles of the year--summer, fall, and winter/spring. Training is a weekly activity and is organized by age and ability levels. The major objectives for training are to help cultivate the goalkeeper's competency in technical play (handling, catching, footwork, diving, high balls, throwing, kicking, punting, etc.) and also work on key technical issues (positioning on and off the line and the accompanying decision, "can the ball be caught, punched or parried?") Training is organized to give the goalkeeper an opportunity to "drill" and also learn the position by playing a variety of games to hone technical and tactical understanding.

As part of the goalkeeper's developmental profile, the opportunity to be included in team training as the goalkeeper is key to their overall ability to grow in the game. Between the GK training provided by the Director of Coaching, Rob Walker, and his staff, plus the work of the goalkeeper's team coach, two important elements in getting the goalkeeper "made" are in place to take the goalkeeper to the next level.

Weekly Pre-session Routine:

  • Arrive on site 10 minutes before session with plenty of water.
  • Gear on, begin preparation, dynamic work with a ball.

FWFC Futsal Nights

Federal Way Football Club is hosting open gym events where our members can play Futsal for free! Futsal Nights will be held Sunday evenings at the Boys & Girls Club of America in Federal Way. FWMSC will provide volunteers to run these events. This is not a team-related practice or training, and there will be little or no coaching during the gym time. This is all about playing a fun game and getting our players to be creative.

What is Futsal?

Futsal is small sided 5v5 soccer that originated in Brazil and Uruguay. Played with a smaller ball in small space requires, impovisation, creativity, and sound technique. Here is a video highlighting the sport.
