Meeting called to order at 7:12 PM by Heather Hamashima – President

 

Quorum present - A quorum of the club shall consist of six (6) Board members, with at least three (3) of them being elected officers. Sign-In sheet attached.

 

Approval of Minutes

•        Minutes from the November 10, 2008 meeting, approved as written.

 

President’s Report – Heather Hamashima

•        Approximating 55 players (U9 & U10) participated in Soccer Fest on January 3, 2009 at Karl Grosch Field at Steel Lake.  Each player received a free tee shirt.

•        Soccer Fest was well received by participants, parents and coaches.  

 

Treasury Report – Sandy Bjork

•        No treasurers report

•        Three players have not paid their fees from fall registration.  The players will not be allowed to register for Spring  or Fall 2009 until the fees have been paid.  

 

Boys Registrar Report – Novella Fraser

•        Michelle and Novella met to discuss the Girl’s Registrar position and how to use the Bonzi system.

Old Business

 

Registration Committee

•        Glen Cote has been working with Star Lake about their after school program and having a soccer program.

•        Star Lake will allow the mod club to have a booth at kindergarten round-up in the spring.

•        Glen Cote still trying to make contact with Sunnycrest to discuss soccer with them.

 

Transition of U10 teams from Mod to FWU

•        Soccer Fest:  Heather Hamashima mailed a flyer to each U10 player about Soccer Fest.  Information for parents about Federal Way United was included in the flyer.  

•        Will have information for parents that have players participating in Mod Spring League about transitioning to Federal Way United.  

•        The Mod and United transition team will set up a parent’s meeting for U10 parents.  The meeting date & information will be emailed to all U10 parents, a notice put on the Federal Way Soccer website and a letter mailed to each parent about the meeting.    

•        Possibly have the coaches contact players about the transition.

•        District teams will be forming in June.

 

New Business

 

Bylaw Changes

•        There may be bylaw changes at the state level and we may need to make changes to some of our bylaws because of the changes.   

•        Bylaw change for the AGM:  Money will be turned into the club for registration.   Article 10 Finances.   Section 3 Registration fees.  No objections to changes.

 

AGM March 2009 – Heather Hamashima

•        Mod AGM - March 2, 2009

•        United AGM - March 11, 2009

•        Association AGM - March 25, 2009

•        Give bylaws proposal to secretary 45 days before the meeting and send out the club notice 30 days before the AGM.

•        Novella was appointed acting secretary until the AGM.

•        Elections at the AGM:  Vice President, Girls Registrar, Treasurer and Secretary (to complete the remainder of a 2 year term).

 

Spring League – Heather Hamashima and Cory Zimmer

•        Girls and Boys U6 – U9 schedule.

Ψ      Dates:  March 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, April 19, 26

Ψ      Girls U6 & U7  12:00 – 1:15 PM,  Boys U6 & U7  1:30 – 2:45 PM, Girls U8 & U9  3:00 – 4:30 PM and Boys U8 & U9  4:45 – 6:15 PM

Ψ      Cost:  Boys & Girls U6 & U7 = $65.00.   Boys & Girls U8 & U9 = $70.00

Ψ      Will use Saghalie fields.

•        Girls & Boys U10 schedule

Ψ      Dates:  March 20, 27, April 10, 17, 24 and May 1.

Ψ      Time:  Friday  5:15 – 7:15 PM

Ψ      Cost:  $85.00

•        Program Objectives

Ψ      Develop ball familiarity

Ψ      Develop a sense of how to play individually and collectively

Ψ      Develop a sense for how to defend

Ψ      Use training activities and games to teach sportsmanship.

•        This program will allow the participants to play for 40 minutes and then have games for 20-30 minutes each week.

•        Will work with Judy Simone-Johnson regarding referees and if they will be needed for the U6 – U9 Sunday games.  

•        Rob Walker will use 8-10 college players from St Martin College to help with the program.  We would like for mod coaches to help with the training.  We will promote the use of the St Martin players on a flyer, emails sent to the parents and also on the Federal Way Soccer website.  

•        Sandy Bjork – Treasurer.  Financial data from 2008. Budgeted $10,000 for spring. Revenue for 2008 = $17,171  Expenses:  Tshirts =  $1,020.18,  Coaching = $1629.00,  Referees = $1662.00 Total Expenses =  $4, 311.18 (expenses)  $12, 859.82       St Martin 2009 projection sheet - $7,768.00.  See attached sheet.

•        Motion:  Perry Woodford - I move that we accept the fee structure for mod spring league.  Second:  Cory Zimmer.  Discussion.  Vote:  10 yes  0 no.

•        Spring Registration

Ψ      Mail-in registration only.  All registration will go to Sandy Bjork. 

Ψ      Heather Hamashima will create a flyer to mail to parents about Mod Spring League. .

Ψ      Heather Hamashima will order tee-shirts.  Each age group will have a different color tee-shirt.

Ψ      Eric Poortvliet will check with Pro-time or Challenger for cheap soccer balls.

Ψ      Sharon Woodford will update the website with the flyer and spring soccer information.

 

Of the Year Awards

•        Postpone discussion until February 9, 2009 meeting.

 

Perry Woodford – Association President

•        Will attend the council meeting for Washington Youth Soccer in Bellevue on January 31 at 8:00 a.m.  They will discuss bylaw proposals and restructuring the executive board.

•        State fees will increase $1.00 for 2009 – 2010. 

•        US Soccer Federation fees will increase by $5.00 for each player.

•        Will learn more about the Academy program for 7- 10 year old players at the January 31 council meeting. If the  program is implemented, it will have an impact on Mod Soccer.  Some of these players will play in United.  

•        Will need player cards for the 2009 season.
