Registration Committee

•       Has met to discuss spring and fall registration.

•       Committee members accepted spring registrations tonight before the mod meeting.

•       For Fall League the registration drop off dates are:  April 26, May 1, May 11, May 16, June 7, June 8, June 13, June 14, July 25 and August 1.  Goal:  Make the registration process run smoother. Parents will be able to turn in their registration, checks, and birth certificate all at the same time.  Checks will be turned into the treasurer sooner and the coaches will not have to deal with the checks and paperwork.

•       Bonzi will be open for Fall League April 19 – August 1 (U7 – U10), April 19 – August 31 (U6).

•       Bonzi payment is expensive for us to do by ourselves.  Will investigate further.

•       Eric Poortvliet will investigate having a booth at the Federal Way Farmers Market.

•       Will bring a list of schools (public and private) to the next mod meeting for people to sign up and take flyers about Fall League to the schools in their area.  Michele Magruder has contacts at the some of the private schools in the area.

•       Fall registration forms should include – Would you like to continue with the same team as last fall?

•       Will discuss further giving a ball to everyone that registers for Fall League. Eric Poortvliet will check with Challenger Sports about the cost.

New Business

•       Registration Discounts/Scholarships

Ψ      Scholarships are available for Fall and Spring League.

Ψ      Motion:  Coaches will receive a full registration for one child in their household if they participate in spring training and coaching.  Motion – Cory Zimmer. Second - Eric Poortvliet.  Motion passed.

Ψ      Motion:  Executive Board members will receive a full registration for one child in their household for spring league.  Motion – Sandy Bjork. Second – Eric Poorvliet.  Motion passed.

•       Finders fee

Ψ      Goal:  Encourage current players to have friends register for Federal Way Mod Soccer for Spring and Fall league.

Ψ      Each current player that refers a new player will receive a $10 credit for Fall league.  The new player must not have played for Federal Way Mod Soccer previously.

Ψ      The program will only apply to U7 – U10 age group.  No U6 player will be able to participate since they are usually new players to Federal Way Mod Soccer.

Ψ      The current player referring a new player must fill out a simple form that we will have available as soon as possible.

Ψ      When the program is ready to go, we will ask Sharon Woodford to put the information on the Federal Way website and email coaches and parents the information.

•       Of the Year Awards

Ψ      Boy’s and Girl’s team awards – will email coaches, board members and families to solicit recommendations for these awards.

Ψ      Recommendations are due at the end of the month.

Ψ      Coaches and board members will vote on who will receive the awards.

Ψ      Will acknowledge all volunteers at the AGM on March 9, 2009.

•       Mod Club Mission Statement

Ψ      Will discuss at a later date.

•       Coaches and Referees

Ψ      Long discussion about running up the scores and solutions for solving the problem.

Ψ      Create a policy within the mod club regarding running up scores.  For example:  if a team is 5 goals ahead of the other team, the coaches may want to even out the teams by adding a player from his team to the other team or playing with one less player on the field.

Ψ      Referees have not been informed that coaches can make this decision to make the game fairer and enjoyable for all players.  Mike Franco will discuss this with the referee association.

Ψ      This information will also be included in the coach’s manual once the policy has been written.

Ψ      Goal:  to create a positive atmosphere for all players.

•       Discussions and recommendations

Ψ      Eric Poortvliet recommends that we no longer use Lake Geneva because of the cost and there are schools that we can use instead.  We will save $5,000 - $10,000 per year.

Ψ      Several members recommended that we purchase balls, t-shirts and equipment to give to the coaches each year and they don’t have to return the items to the club.  They can give the balls & t-shirts to each player at the end of the season and the players will have a ball to practice with during off season. If we are able to do this we could save $2556.00 in storage shed fees.

Ψ      Novella Fraser recommended that we have a newsletter that we email  to coaches with training tips similar to the emails that Rob Walker sends to United Coaches.

Ψ      Eric Poortvliet would like for the club to look at player movement and why parents decide to move their player to another team or club.
