Coaches’ Meeting

Monday, June 11th, 2007

Registration:

·         Player Registration

o   Go to www.federalwaysoccer.com and click on “Sign Up” off the menu bar.

o   Under Player Forms/Links select “On-Line Registration”.

o   Follow instructions to register the player(s).

o   Once complete, the system will automatically e-mail the parent a confirmation e-mail with their child’s player registration form attached.

o   Parent prints this electronic form and gives it along with player registration fee and copy of birth certificate (if new) to the coach.

o   If the player does not have access to a computer at home, ask them to go to a friend’s house or the library.  As a last resort, the coach can register the child.  This is because whoever registers a player is the only one who can change that player’s data because of the username and password.

·         Coach, Assistant Coach and Team Manager Registration

o   Go to www.federalwaysoccer.com and click on “Sign Up” off the menu bar.

o   Under Staff Forms/Links select “On-Line Registration”.

o   Follow instructions to register as a coach or manager under “Coaching Staff”.

o   Once complete, the system will automatically e-mail you a confirmation e-mail with your registration form attached.

·         If You Are Planning On Coaching:

o  Contact all your players from last year to see if they want to play soccer on your team again this year.  Last fall’s roster has first priority for placement on the team.  Then the new players you picked up during spring league (if your team participated) have second priority.  Finally, if you still have openings, you may ask more children to play on your team or ask the Age Group Coordinator for additional children.

o   Contact your Age Group Coordinator by the middle of July with the number of returning players you will have and how many more players you would like to add to your roster.  Note: The Club will try not to give you more players than you prefer but if a child needs to be placed, you will be required to take him/her up to the maximum roster size.

o   Turn in your team registration packet, listed below, by the Club deadline to your Age Group Coordinator, not the Registrar. Follow Team Registration Instructions found on the “Sign Up” page, direct link: http://www.federalwaysoccer.com/Forms/Mod/07FallModInstructions.pdf.  Note: All special game requests must be written on the Team Registration Form and be given to Kristina by the registration deadline.  No schedule requests will be granted after schedules are completed.

§         Team Registration Check List

§         Team Registration Form

§         A check or scholarship request for every player for the registration fee, except the child of the Head Coach or Executive Board member.  Per our by-laws, “To acknowledge and encourage volunteers, the Club will waive the player registration fee for one child per household, for each member of the Executive Board and one Head Coach per team

§         A Risk Management Acceptance (RMA) clearance is required for all coaches, assistant coaches, managers and trainers, or any person involved with youth players or having any financial responsibility with a team, Club, Association, etc. By registering on-line, each staff member will automatically be RMA checked.

Schedules:

·         Practice Field Schedules

o   Sign up schedules will be posted early July.  E-mail Kristina @ kobysmom@comcast.net to sign up.

o   Practice fields will be given only AFTER registration packet has been turned in to the Coordinator.  This will insure all players get registered and are covered by Washington State Youth Soccer Association (WSYSA) insurance and that all staff gets registered and the staff is Risk Management Approved (RMA).

o   You sign up for a 1 hour time slot, either 5-6pm or 6-7pm.  (not 5:30 – 6:30).

o   If you want to practice for a longer period of time you may start as early as 4:00 (if you sign up from 5-6pm) or stay as late as you have light (if you sign up from 6-7pm).  6:00 is the switching hour!!!

o   Some fields are divided by a dashed line (A1, A2).  This is so a U9 or U10 team can have the whole area (both A1 & A2) or a U6 – U8 team can use half of that field (A1 OR A2).

o   ONLY the team that is maintaining (lining) the game field is allowed to practice at a game field.

·         League Schedules:

o   U7 – U10

§         Team Registration Due to Coordinators: August 1st.

§         Schedules posted on website by August 26th.

o   U6

§         Team Registration Due: September 7th.

§         Schedules posted on website by September 17th.

o   Game Reschedules/No-Shows

§         All game requests must be sent to Kristina BEFORE the schedules are started.

§         Coaches do not know the entire field schedule or field availability so therefore they can not reschedule games themselves.

§         The Mod Club gets billed by the Referee Association for each game change on top of the original game fee.  This includes field, time, and team changes.  If a game does not get played because a team (or teams) does not show up, the referee still gets paid.  It is very unfair to a young referee to show up at a game and have no teams there, especially if their parents dropped them off at the field.  PLEASE, as soon as you discover any possible problems with game attendance, please contact Kristina.  The least she can do is notify the Referees.

§         Teams that do not show up for their game will have to pay the referee.

Miscellaneous:

·         Uniforms

o   Teams which played in Spring keep equipment for fall.

o     If teams wish to purchase their own uniforms, Sharon Woodford has negotiated a deal with Protime Sports for inexpensive kits.  Youth kits (jersey, shorts, & socks) for $12.50.  For more information contact Gordon Lacey @ Protime Sports; 1095 Andover Park East, Seattle, Wa 98188; Tel: 800-575-1603; www.protimesports.com.

o     Any team purchasing their own uniforms must get prior approval from the Board and the uniforms must be in the Club colors which are any color combination of Red, Blue, Black, or White.

·         Need Volunteers

o   Girl’s Registrar

·         Registration Signs

The Mod and FWU Soccer Clubs went together to purchase yard signs to advertise the soccer signups.  We would appreciate people taking a sign home to post in your yard (or a neighbors yard) to advertise Federal Way Soccer.  We would like to collect them (if at all possible) in September when registration is over to use them again next year.  Hopefully this will increase our player numbers.

·         E Coaching Clinic

FWSA will offer an E Coaching Clinic on July 27, 28, & 29.  Anyone interested please contact Jammie Hair at hairball15@msn.com.

o  The emphasis of the “E” course is on coaching players 10-14 years of age.  It is a general certificate of 11-a-side play and is intended for those coaches who are in the transitional stage from coaching Modified soccer to coaching 11 vs 11 soccer.  The course is best suited for those coaches with several years experience or who have attended one or more of the youth module courses

o  The “E” course focuses on coaching points and the teaching of technique, with an introduction to the Principles of Play (attack and defense).  The “E” course also provides elementary information on the management and preparation of a team.
