BOARD MEETING MINUTES

November 13, 2006

 

The meeting of the Federal Way Modified Soccer Club was called to order by President Stephanie Knapp on Monday, November 13th at 7:20pm at Round Table Pizza in Federal Way.

 

The Attendees included:

A Quorum was achieved.  (A Quorum of the club shall consist of 6 (six) board members with at least 3 (three) of them being elected officers.)

 

PRESIDENT’S REPORT – Stephanie Knapp

  • Discussed how we can improve the sportsmanship atmosphere for the kids.
  • YMCA makes coaches take an online class before they can coach.  Stephanie is looking into different options and will bring more information to the next meeting.

 

VICE-PRESIDENT’S REPORT – Mary Ward

  • Mary went to the FWSA meeting on 11-1-06.
    • Sacagawea is looking at redoing part of the turf and putting up new goals that FW will contribute to.  Decatur is looking into putting up lights.
  • Discussed how we can give authority to Rob Walker, Director of Coaching for United, authority to work with mod club because he is paid by United.
    • Need to work with Perry and by laws to give Rob authority to work with Mod club.
  • PDL is looking at getting rules in place dealing with problems and complaints.

 

SECRETARY – Yvette Gregg

  • Nothing to report

 

TREASURER – Kathy Barnes-did not attend but emailed the information

  • Ending Balance- $100,702.88
  • She passed on checks that have bounced to Stephanie.  She will mail a letter to the people who bounced their checks with a copy of their check.

 

BOYS REGISTRAR – Cheryl Guthrie

  • Nothing to report

GIRLS REGISTRAR- Tricia Arroyo-did not attend

  • Nothing to report

 

2nd VICE PRESIDENT OF ADMINISTRATION – Ken Landreth –did not attend

  • Motion made to dismiss him from his position because he has not been present according to the by laws.  Motion was 2nd, there was no discussion, and motion was passed.

 

REFEREE COORDINATOR – Judy Simone Johnson

  • Mentioned that she was unsure why referee attendance was down this year.  Referees are sometimes just not showing up and it’s been difficult filling spots.
  • Letter came from WSYSA stating that we can not employ and pay kids ages 14 and under. 
    • Pierce County and Eastside only employ referees 14 and over.
    • Stephanie was going to talk to baseball umpire coordinator to see what they do.
    • Other options were discussed-
      • Pay them a stipend?
      • Possibly change the wording?

 

FIELDS COORDINATOR- OPEN POSITION

  • Discussed problem at Mark Twain.  Gate in the lower parking lot has been locked.  Having problems getting keys for the lock.
  • Discussed someone brought a generator and their truck to Valhalla for lights.

 

EQUIPMENT COORDINATOR BOYS – Open Position

  • Nothing to report

 

EQUIPMENT COORDINATOR GIRLS-Bob Gonzalez-did not attend

  • Has a date for equipment pick up.
  • We have money for more equipment-Stephanie will order more size 4 balls.

The new website is finally coming together.  Eben Designs and I have finally agreed on the revised website architecture and they are busy working on the site.  Once they have created all the pages and links I will have to add all the data.  I have printed some of the website pages.

  • Per player fee is based on team having 85% of maximum roster size.

*The motion made to increase fees was 2nd, and then approved with no discussion.

New Business

·            Policy Revisions

o        Mod Policy 1 (U6 Rules) and Policy 2 (U7 Rules)

§         Add item B under LAW III:

There are no goalkeepers.  There should be no defenders inside the goal box without an offensive player within the vicinity.  Players are not allowed to “camp out” in front of the goal.

o        Mod Policy 4 (U9 Rules)

§         Add item B under LAW VIII The Start Of Play for clarification:

Drop Kicking and punting are allowed.

o        Mod Policy 5 (U9 Rules) and Policy 5 (U10 Rules)

§         Revised item A under LAW VIII The Start Of Play to agree with WSYSA rules:

Opponents must be ten (10) yards from the center mark while place kick is in progress. 

§         Add item B under LAW VIII The Start Of Play for clarification:

·            U11 Parents’ Meeting

o           Federal Way United (FWU) is planning to hold 2 parents’ meetings for next year’s U11 parents; one in early December and one in late January.  Points of focus:

§         December Meeting: 

·         Transition between Mod and FWU

·         U11 Levels of Play

·         Difference between Select and Non-Select teams

·         Schedule

·         Costs

§         January Meeting:

·         Everything from December meeting plus:

o              U11 Coaches

o              Tryout Schedule

o              U11 Training Camp (to prepare for tryouts)

o           Is the Mod Club going to hold their December meeting?  If not FWU will hold the U11 Parents’ meeting on that Monday in the Sacajawea Middle School Cafeteria, if available.

·            2007 Proposed Calendar: Is it okay if I post this Mod Club proposed calendar in the website?  The dates on this calendar should be approved at the January meeting.

    • Proposed 2007 calendar will be posted on the web site.

·            2007 Spring League

·            There will be no meeting in December.

·            Discussed that schools will no longer be handing out fliers for soccer, so we need to be more creative in putting out notices for soccer sign-ups, example-advertise in the paper.

An email was sent out asking for nominees for the different categories.  No responses came in.  Voting needs to take place via email or at the January meeting as 2 board members left which left us without a quorum.
